A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DURANT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAMS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Durant Junior High School Tigers Basketball Teams finished their 1998-1999 seasons with a perfect record of 8 wins and no losses for the boys team and 11 wins and no losses for the girls team; and

WHEREAS, the Durant Junior High School Tigers Boys Basketball Team is made up of talented and dedicated young men, including Gene Bullock, Brandon Campbell, Bernard Coffee, Jermaine James, Norman Johnson, Kendall Simmons, Setia Sumerall, Michael Thomas, Antonio Wash, Jermaine Winters, Jimmy Young and Shermayne Young; and

WHEREAS, the Durant Junior High School Tigers Girls Basketball Team includes several outstanding and talented young women such as Jessica Bankhead, Candice Booker, Amanda Boyd, Ashley Howard, Monchel Howard, Ginny Land, Shemecka Owens, Amy Patterson, Tacara Roby, Marilyn Smith and Sabrina Thompson; and

WHEREAS, the Durant Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Lee Burwell and supported throughout the season by their managers, Amanda Hood and Moneka Roby; and

WHEREAS, the Durant Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Catherine McCrory and Assistant Coach Glendolyn Crowell and encouraged by their managers, Reta Baily, Arrion Hood, Kristy Junior and Latasha Sumerall; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers were awarded two first place tournament trophies and the Tigers received one first place tournament trophy; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Durant Junior High Boys and Girls Tigers Basketball Teams and their head coaches, Lee Burwell and Catherine McCrory and their assistant coach, Glendolyn Crowell, for the remarkable season with perfect records and for displaying tireless efforts to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Durant Junior High School, Head Coach Lee Burwell, Head Coach Catherine McCrory, Assistant Coach Glendolyn Crowell and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
